What's New

Mar. 12

No news to report so far, I'm afraid. I'm currently knee deep in research for a novel set in Restoration England, and so have been neglecting my short story writing and submissions quite shamefully. Hopefully I'll remedy that later in the year. :)

2011

Dec. 11

Rainbow Award logo

Whee! Just learned that 'Bourn's Edge' has received two Rainbow Awards, winning the Sci-fi/Fantasy category, and coming 3rd in the Novel/Book category. Many thanks to Elisa Rolle and her jury of over 100 judges (especially Debra ;P ).

Nov. 11

Bummer! It looks like the Fae Publishing website has vanished, taking the short story archive and my WW2 fantasy story 'M-Day' with it. :(

Sep. 11

The year has slowed to a crawl. Nothing to report except rejection slips.

Jul. 11

GCLS 'Goldie' award

My Goldie award has finally arrived (though I had to pay the UK Border Agency to release it from their custody first - grrr!). Doesn't it look spiffy? :)

Jun. 11

Yay! 'Bourn's Edge' won a Goldie award for Speculative Fiction. To see the full list of winners go here. :)

May 11

Yay! My books 'Bourn's Edge' and 'Frederica and the Viscountess' are both finalists (in different categories) for this year's Goldie awards. To see the full list of finalists go here. :)

Mar. 11

Way back in the mists of time, the readers of British small press magazine Kimota gave my time-travel short story 'Time's Change' their 1999 Best Story Award. Kimota editor Graeme Hurry has now published a Kindle anthology, and 'Time's Change' is in it. You can buy the anthology from Amazon here. :)

Feb. 11

My WW2 fantasy 'M-Day' is now the featured short story on the brand new Fae Publishing website. :)

Jan. 11

My year is off to a great start. Fae Publishing have accepted my WW2 fantasy short story 'M-Day' for publication. Yay!

2010

Nov. 10

Travis Barrett has given my short story 'Irascible' a nice mention in his blog.

The paperback edition of 'Bourn's Edge' should now be available from all the usual bookstores. For example, you can find it on Amazon here. I have created a dedicated page for it here.

Oct. 10

My contemporary fantasy, 'Bourn's Edge', is peeking its head above the horizon. Yay! An eBook edition is now available from Bedazzled Ink and a Kindle edition is imminent. Print edition to follow very soon. Watch this space.

Work on the print version of 'Bourn's Edge' is getting closer to completion. Won't be long now, hopefully. :)

Sep. 10

I'm working on the edits of the print version of my contemporary fantasy, 'Bourn's Edge'. Apart from that, nothing to report this month except rejection slips.

Aug. 10

The print version of 'Frederica and the Viscountess' should now be available from all the usual bookstores. I have created a dedicated page for it here.

'Irascible' is now up in the latest issue of Sorcerous Signals.

Jul. 10

Nothing to report this month except rejection slips.

Jun. 10

Cover of Frederica and the Viscountess

My Regency novella 'Frederica and the Viscountess' (plus a swashbuckling bonus: 'The Adventures of Murdering Meg') is now available for purchase in ebook format here. The print version is due in a few weeks.

Nothing to report this month except rejection slips.

Apr. 10

Sorcerous Signals have accepted my fantasy story, 'Irascible', for their Aug 2010 issue. :)

My short story 'Shaitan's Daughter' is in the latest issue of Lacuna. You can read it for free here.

Mar. 10

Nothing to report this month except rejection slips.

Feb. 10

Bedazzled Ink have agreed to publish my Regency romance 'Frederica and the Viscountess'. Since it is a novella rather than a novel, we will be including 'The Adventures of Murdering Meg' (two short pirate stories) as well. Excellent!

Jan. 10

Cover of Tales of the Talisman Vol. 5 Iss. 3

'The Windseller's Gift ' is now in print in Tales of the Talisman, Vol. 5 Iss. 3. You can purchase it here.

'Spirit of the Glade' is now also in print in Mystic Signals #4. You can purchase it from Amazon.

Oct. 09

The new historical ezine Lacuna has accepted my female pirate story, 'Shaitan's Daughter', for publication in the April 2010 issue. Excellent!

Sep. 09

Nothing to report except a rejection slip for my female pirate story. Dang! What am I going to do with it now?

Aug. 09

On the down side: 'Rebeccah and the Highwayman' didn't win a GCLS award. On the up side: I've been inducted into the Royal Academy of Bards' 'Hall of Fame' for my Xena fanfiction. Whee!

Jul. 09

Sorcerous Signals have accepted my fantasy story, 'Spirit of the Glade', for their Nov-Jan issue. Yippee! :)

Cover of A Time To

The anthology, A TIME TO ... Volume 3 - The Best of The Lorelei Signal 2008, is now available from Amazon. It contains my story, 'A Tinseltown Fairytale'.

Jun. 09

GCLS Finalist Logo

Just heard that 'Rebeccah and the Highwayman' is a finalist in the Historical Romance category in the Fifth Annual GCLS Literary Awards. Whee! :)

May 09

This month I've been writing a story for an anthology about female pirates. It's not specfic, so if they don't want it, Lord knows who will! (The historical fiction mag I had in mind for a good fallback market has folded.) Oh well. Fingers crossed, eh? Apart from that, nothing to report except yet more rejection slips.

Apr. 09

'Orc for Hire' is now up in the Apr-Jun 2009 issue of The Lorelei Signal.

Mar. 09

Tales of the Talisman have accepted my fantasy story, 'The Windseller's Gift', for their December 2009 issue. Yippee! :)

March has got off to an excellent start with another nice review of 'Rebeccah and the Highwayman', this time at Just About Write here. :)

Feb. 09

More rejection slips this month - flattering ones, but still rejections. However, a nice review of 'Rebeccah and the Highwayman' has been posted in Rainbow Reviews here. :)

Jan. 09

My publisher Bedazzled Ink is now offering eBook versions of my three published books. To celebrate, they are offering a 10% discount on said eBooks purchased upto and including 23rd Jan '09. (Just enter BBPWELCOME where it says "Redemption Code" on the checkout page.)
The eBook online bookshop can be found here.

2008

Dec. 08

Whee! An acceptance at long last. The Lorelei Signal have accepted 'Orc for Hire' for their Apr-Jun 2009 issue.

Oct. and Nov. 08

I've received notification from Alexandria Digital Literature that they are discontinuing their 'unprofitable conversion and distribution business' and terminating the contract for six of my short stories. Four of them ('Eye of the Beholder', The Horror Within', 'Morris and the Mermaid', and 'The Princess and the Barbarian') were posted only on Alex Lit's own site and had been unavailable for awhile, but this means that the remaining two, 'Option: Everest' and 'Time's Change', have been removed from Fictionwise. Bummer!

3rd November: This morning my mother died. God speed, Mum.

Mum and me.

Aug. and Sept. 08

My mother's in hospital, at the moment. As I'm the kind of writer who can only be creative when she's not stressing about other things, my writing's come to a grinding halt, I'm afraid.

On the writing front, Fictionwise are now stocking an ebook version of 'A Goat Has Two Horns'. Scrybe Press, who published it in chapbook form, have arranged this without consulting me and I doubt very much if I will see a penny of any royalties, but I'm glad people will be able to get the chance to read it here anyway.

Jul. 08

Nothing to report on the writing front this month (though I did give my mother a solar-powered frog fountain for her birthday, which she seemed to like. ;P). Not even rejection slips. Sometimes getting replies from editors is a loooong-winded process!

Jun. 08

'Rebeccah and the Highwayman' is getting some nice reviews. There's one from a blogger here, and one in the latest Just About Write newsletter here. :)

May 08

Received my contracted copies of 'Rebeccah and the Highwayman' from my publisher this morning (19th). Whee! :)

Apr. 08

'Rebeccah and the Highwayman' has now been published and is gradually creeping into the online bookstores. So far it has been listed on Amazon US and Barnes and Noble.
I have created a dedicated page for it. Go here.

Mar. 08

Cover of A Time To

The anthology, A TIME TO ... Volume 2 - The Best of The Lorelei Signal 2007 is now available from Lulu.

There's a nice review of it and of my story 'The Witch's Revenge' in this blog. :)

Feb. 08

No acceptances to report this month, alas. In the meantime, I've been proofing 'The Witch's Revenge', which will be appearing in the anthology, A TIME TO ... Volume 2 - The Best of The Lorelei Signal 2007 in March. I've also approved the cover of 'Rebeccah and the Highwayman'.

Jan. 08

A good start to the new year. The Ystrelan Ambassador is now up on the Khimairal Ink website, as part of their January issue.

'A Tinseltown Fairytale' is now up in the Jan-Mar 2008 issue of The Lorelei Signal.
